Flyers

I quite enjoy playing around with different fonts. I'm a big fan of websites such as www.dafont.com and I like seeing how different sizes, colours etc work with whatever I'm designing. So naturally, I was quite looking forward to the outcome of this task.

We were given a selection of words on a blank canvas and were told to make a poster using only typography skills and re-arranging the pieces of text. It needed to be kept simple: no images used. I came up with three designs:

This first one is quite simplistic, yet the placings of the text make it quite quirky and unique looking. I could imagine this on a pinboard at university, but not necessarily as a large poster that would stand out to a crowd.

This second poster is a lot more modern. Although I'm not too sure about the drop-shadow effect on text, I think it works here as it makes the two 'main' items of text stand out most. Again, I'm not sure that this would stand out amongst other flyers but if placed on its own, it'd have a great eye-catching effect.

This final flyer is my favourite of the three. I wasn't sure at first whether or not the font would work, but I think it gives the poster quite a 'futuristic' feel, and it contrasts well with the other fonts I used.

For all three images, I kept the colours of the fonts fairly dark and simple as I felt this was what was appropriate for this kind of flyer. The last flyer with the grey and black font works the best in my eyes, as it's all in the same colour palette - not confusing - and the main texts stand out brilliantly, serving the purpose of the flyer.
